ISGH was honored with the Annual Torch of Global Enlightenment Award

Each year, The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg honors individuals and organizations that have demonstrated the highest ideals in advancing issues of global importance. Awards are being presented for efforts to advance international education, environmental sustainability, global health, tolerance, civic engagement, international law, human rights and support for refugees and immigrants. This year, Alhumdulillah, ISGH was honored with the Annual Torch of Global Enlightenment Award for its contribution towards interfaith harmony and against extremism in the Harrisburg region. Award was presented on Thursday, May 18th @ 6:30 PM @ Harrisburg University.

This award goes to everyone that are working on various fronts on the interfaith activities on behalf of ISGH. JazakumuAllahu Khairan to everyone who contributed to the success of ISGH and who helped ISGH get nominated.

On behalf of the council and the community, we sincerely request everyone to please come and grace the occasion and make this occasion special and one of the most memorable for ISGH.

The Islamic Center of Greater Harrisburg has been nominated to be honored at the annual Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards ceremony sponsored by The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg at 6:30 p.m. May 18, 2017 in the auditorium of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, 326 Market St., Harrisburg.

Cate Barron, Executive Editor of PennLive and The Patriot News, will provide the keynote address at the event on “Challenges to the American Media.”

Each year, The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg honors individuals and organizations that have demonstrated the highest ideals in advancing issues of global importance during ceremonies on May 18, 2017 at Harrisburg University. Awards are being presented for efforts to advance international education, environmental sustainability, global health, tolerance, civic engagement, international law, human rights and support for refugees and immigrants.

The work of the Islamic Center of Greater Harrisburg in our region in support of interfaith harmony and against extremism clearly has advanced these high ideals, and we hope you are able to join us at the Torch Awards to accept our expressions of appreciation.

Previous individual award winners have include the Honorable Pedro Cortes, Dr. Hector Ortiz, Bishop Nathan Baxter, Dr. Richard Hughes, Dr. Truong Phuong, Graham and Esmeralda Hetrick, Dr. Barbara Terry, Behzad Zandieh, Sensei Tony Stultz.

Organizations honored have included: the Latino Hispanic American Cultural Center (LHACC), Harsco, Survivors Inc, Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Dean’s Diversity Council at Penn State Hershey School of Medicine, Mission Central, Lancaster Interchurch Peace Witness, the Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking at Elizabethtown College, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Hope International, the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg, the Interfaith Alliance and the Peace Islands Institute.
